Pastureland Literature Synthesis

As part of the joint USDA-NRCS, USDA-ARS and University collaboration on Grazingland CEAP (Conservation Effects Assessment Project), a detailed survey of existing scientific literature on conservation practices in pasture was compiled. The project, edited by Dr. Jerry Nelson, covered four main practices:

  • Planting for Hay, Silage, and Biomass
  • Prescribed Grazing
  • Forage Harvest Management
  • Nutrient Management

as well as providing an overview of pasture in the United States and a synthesis of available knowledge.

The full report, titled Conservation Outcomes from Pastureland and Hayland Practices: Assessment, Recommendations, and Knowledge Gaps, is available online.
